STB128 | Youth Ministry + Pastor Kevin E1
Monday, July 9, 2025
Nathan shoots the breeze with Pastor Kevin, where they swap stories about fishing (or, in Nathan’s case, the complete inability to catch anything). They discuss how our connection with God shifts through life’s changing seasons and the chaos of parenting. They also explore how spiritual growth doesn’t always happen in quiet solitude, but often through the loud, messy, and beautiful moments of ordinary life. *Please note, this discussion takes place in two episodes. This is episode one.*

STB129 | Youth Ministry + Pastor Kevin E2
Monday, June 16, 2025
Nathan and Pastor Kevin continue their discussion about the challenges of balancing ministry, marriage, and parenting. As a Youth Pastor, Kevin reflects on his desire to be a supplemental voice in students’ lives — not a replacement for spiritually engaged parents. Together, they discuss how youth ministry should support what’s happening at home, not carry it. Kevin opens up about the pressures of leadership, the importance of putting his marriage first, and the lessons learned from marriage counseling and personal failures. He also shares how his upbringing shaped his views on emotional vulnerability — and why he’s committed to being open with his wife. They dive deep into parenting, calling out the dangers of disengagement and the power of simply being present. Kevin’s advice to parents: ask real questions, build trust daily, and don’t let fear or shame keep you from connecting with your kids. Whether you’re in ministry or not, this episode reminds us that consistency, honesty, and grace are the foundations of impactful relationships. *Please note, this discussion takes place in two episodes. This is episode two.*VIEW EPISODE↗︎ |

PODCAST PLAYLISTS
We have several playlists of subjects we've discussed on our podcast. These playlists include:
FORGIVENESS↗︎ In this playlist, Nathan and Lacey unpack the messy, misunderstood process of forgiveness — what it really means, what it doesn’t, and why it’s essential for healing. They explore the difference between forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration, as well as how true repentance involves both propitiation and restitution. In the final episode, they address the myth of “forgiving yourself” and offer a better path to freedom from shame and condemnation. This series is honest, practical, and rooted in biblical truth for anyone seeking wholeness in relationships and with God.
GNOSTICISM (& Jesus' Humanity)↗︎ In this playlist, Nathan and Pastor Scott Frerking tackle the lingering influence of Gnosticism—both in the early church and today. Through conversations on Jude 1–16, 1 John 4, and the nature of Jesus’ full humanity, they unpack how hidden Gnostic thinking still shapes modern Christian life. Together, they challenge believers to live out a faith that aligns with truth, reject both legalism and compromise, and embrace spiritual maturity, freedom, and victory in Jesus.
UNLOVE↗︎ In this playlist, Phil Reeves interviews Nathan about the deeply personal journey and real-life experiences that inspired and shaped his book UnLove. Nathan opens up about living a double life and his addiction to pornography, facing public church discipline, walking through redemption with his wife and church, coming to terms with having a terminal disease, and the hard-earned lessons that shaped his theology. They explore topics like forgiveness, the tension between empathy and confronting sin, and how God uses brokenness for transformation and maturity. Nathan shares his honest struggles with accountability, apologizing, anger, unmet dreams, and how God's goodness and provision was revealed through it all. This series offers a raw, grace-filled look at spiritual growth, relational healing, and what it really means to mature in Jesus.
ROMANS 5-8↗︎ In this playlist, Nathan and Pastor Scott Frerking walk through Romans 5–8, unpacking the journey from sin and struggle to freedom and glory in Jesus. They explore how faith in Jesus requires risk, maturity, and endurance, and define sin as anything that opposes our God-given design. Together, they examine our daily choice of lordship — whether to serve sin or walk in obedience to Jesus — and reveal how the kind of fruit we bear exposes who we truly follow. They tackle the tension of striving under the law without Jesus, and the freedom that comes only through the Holy Spirit. Romans 8 brings the hope of our adoption as children of God, the promise of future glory, and the assurance that nothing — except unbelief — can separate us from God's love. This series invites believers into a deeper understanding of grace, identity, and victory in Jesus.
GALATIANS↗︎ In this playlist, Nathan and Pastor Scott Frerking walk through the book of Galatians, exploring Paul’s bold defense of the gospel and his call to spiritual maturity. From Paul’s personal story of redemption to confronting legalism and fear-based religion, they unpack how the Law was never God's final plan — Jesus was. These conversations highlight the difference between spiritual immaturity and Spirit-led freedom, exposing false gospels rooted in performance, pride, or approval-seeking. Real maturity means living by faith, walking in the Spirit, and embracing the generosity and freedom found only in Jesus.
PHILEMON↗︎ In this playlist, Nathan and Pastor Scott Frerking walk through the letter to Philemon, revealing how the gospel transforms relationships, community, and personal responsibility. From Paul’s greeting to Philemon, Apphia, Archippus, and their house church, to his bold request on behalf of Onesimus, the message is clear: gospel living is communal, sacrificial, and Spirit-empowered. They explore how true reconciliation requires both repentance and forgiveness, and how Paul models this by stepping in as a redeemer. Ultimately, Paul’s confidence in Philemon isn’t rooted in obligation but in transformation — the evidence of a life changed by the Gospel.
1-3 JOHN↗︎ In this playlist, Nathan and Pastor Scott Frerking journey through the letters of 1-3 John and the modern church’s quiet struggle with Gnostic thinking. They unpack how distorted views of sin, humanity, and holiness still shape Christian belief — and how Scripture calls us to something better. From exposing false teachings to embracing the full humanity of Jesus (while assuming his divinity), these conversations explore how joy, maturity, and spiritual victory come through truth, obedience, and love. Believers are challenged to reject rebellion, practice righteousness, and live empowered by the Spirit to reflect the heart of Jesus in a confused world.
JUDE↗︎ In this playlist, Nathan and Pastor Scott Frerking explore the subtle ways Gnosticism still shapes modern Christianity — often without us knowing it. Through conversations rooted in the book of Jude, they confront false teaching, legalism, progressive Christianity, and spiritual immaturity. Together, they unpack how believers can live lives that align with truth, walk in mercy, and lead others well by embracing Jesus' empowerment and rejecting distorted versions of the gospel.
REVELATION↗︎ In this playlist, Nathan and Phil Reeves walk through the book of Revelation, cutting through fear-based interpretations and pop-culture confusion. They explore how John’s visions are rooted in Hebrew Scripture, often defined by the text itself through “hear” and “see” cues. From apocalyptic imagery and prophetic language to topics like the rapture, second coming, antichrist(s), and Daniel’s 70 weeks, they offer grounded, contextual insight that challenges sensationalism, futurism, and dispensationalism. Whether Revelation unfolds in linear or cyclical movements, the message is clear: Jesus is the fulfillment of Scripture, and the point of Revelation isn’t fear, but faithful understanding.
