BIBLE SCHOOL EDITION – Nathan and Pastor Scott discuss Romans 8.26-39, showing how we can share the same glory as Jesus and the Father. They also share how Christians are more than conquerors through Jesus, and nothing (except our own lack of faith) can remove us from God’s protection and vindication.

ROMANS 8.26-30: SUFFERING + THE HOLY SPIRIT = OUR GLORIFICATION
Our suffering (for Jesus) with the Holy Spirit leads to our maturity (becoming like Jesus) and our glorification (with Jesus) to the glory (plan and purpose) of the Father.
• John 17.1-26 – Glorify means that we make known — through acknowledging, seeking after, trusting, and praising Him — His actions, desires, opinions, purposes, thoughts, and approval.
• Glory of God → Glory of Jesus → Glory of Us → Gives God Glory
(Gk. doxazo from doxa = to be worthy of high opinion, honor, approval, or praise)
• In God’s view of time (foreknowing our failure), he planned (predestined) humanity to conform to Jesus (redemption) → therefore He invites (calls) all humanity (see John 12.32) → those who respond in faith (see Romans 3.21-30) are made right (justified) → only those who are of faith are then given the glory of Jesus and the Father (John 17.1-26).
APPLICATION QUESTION(S): What struggles do you have with the concept that as a believer you share the same glory with both the Father and Jesus as you trust the Holy Spirit in your weakness?
ROMANS 8.31-39: WE ARE IN GOOD HANDS
No suffering or attack against us (because of Jesus) will conquer or overtake us as we trust in the Holy Spirit. In fact, we are more than conquerors. Nothing — except our own lack of faith — can remove us from God’s protection or vindication.
APPLICATION QUESTION(S): If we are more than conquerors and God works all things out for our good, what might this mean for circumstances that appear to not work out in our favor or for our benefit?
ACTIVATION STEPS
From this study, prayerfully walk through the following steps:
STEP #1 – LET THE HOLY SPIRIT BE IN CONTROL (Romans 8.26):
You do not have to navigate pain and hardship alone. Ask the Holy Spirit: What would it look like for me to release to You the outcome of ________________ [insert a decision, circumstance, or relationship]?
STEP #2 – TRUST THE HEAVENLY FATHER TO WORK (Romans 8.28):
If the outcome is not good, then God is not finished working on your behalf. However, you do not get to decide what “good” means for your life and the lives of those you love. Ask the Holy Spirit: How can I change my definition of good to agree with Yours?
STEP #3 – KNOW THAT YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER LOVES YOU (Romans 8.38-39):
No circumstance, pain, or opposition that is a result of your trust in Jesus can change the fact that you are in God’s careful hands — He is working it out for your good and for you to conquer. Ask the Holy Spirit: Because of this circumstance, what are the lies of the enemy that are making me question my value, my purpose, or my security in You? What is the truth about my value, purpose, or security in You?
