BIBLE SCHOOL EDITION – Nathan and Pastor Scott launch a new identity series by challenging the lie that people are “broken” at their core. Using Scripture and real-life stories, they explain how our identity as God’s image-bearers is intrinsic and irreplaceable, even when our lives feel messy. This episode reframes “blessing” as an opportunity to prosper, unpacks our mission to bring order to chaos, and invites listeners to see themselves the way the Father already does.

(00:00) Perception, Value, and Identity
The conversation moves from lighthearted banter into a story about “laundered” vacation money, illustrating how our identity retains value even when life, sin, and pain make everything feel ruined.
(16:35) Made in God’s Image and Likeness
Attention turns to Genesis 1, 5, and 9, showing that humanity remains God’s image-bearers before and after the fall and the flood. Our mission to multiply, steward, and bring order has never been revoked.
(37:51) Intrinsic Worth vs. Broken Narratives
The focus shifts to how religious language, like “less of me, more of Him”, can distort identity when misapplied. Nathan and Scott contrast those clichés with Jesus calling us light, salt, and a city on a hill.
(55:22) Activation Steps
This episode closes with an invitation to ask the Holy Spirit where your view of yourself has been devalued, to agree with God’s declaration of your worth, and to step into your calling to bring order to chaos.

CREATED IN GOD’S IMAGE & LIKENESS
Genesis 1.26-27; 5.1; 9.6; James 3.9
God created us in His image and likeness — this is divinely intrinsic, not some reflective attribute or characteristic. With this identity, we are designed with natural and healthy responses to difficult, uncontrollable, and uncomfortable circumstances. These natural and healthy responses promote healthy relationships — both with God and people. However, for better or worse, our early childhood experiences and relationships lay the foundation of whether we will think and behave in agreement with our design or rebel against it.
APPLICATION QUESTION(S):
When do you find it most difficult to believe that you, empowered with the Holy Spirit, finitely reflect and represent the infinite God?
THE DEVALUED & DISTORTED PERCEPTIONS OF OUR IDENTITY
Genesis 3.1-5 (compare with 1.26-27)
Our God-given identity is inseparable from who we are and remains intact regardless of what we do or what others do to us. Looking at our identity through anything other than God’s truth, our perception of our identity becomes devalued or distorted. These false perceptions shape our behavior — who we believe we are influences how we think and behave. Believing our sin or the sins committed against us makes it impossible to reflect God reshapes how we define freedom and victory in two ways:
False Perception #1 – Devalued Lacking God-given worth leads to us either perpetually spiraling down into further destructive rebellious behaviors (unrighteousness) or seeking a value in performance and self-worth (self-righteousness) that refuses outside help. Both reject repentance and the Holy Spirit as a real answer or option for redemption.
False Perception #2 – Distorted A distorted view of our nature and identity minimizes God’s design and empowerment. This distortion is further complicated by the disparagingly false teachings of “man’s depravity” or “sinful nature”. This distortion focuses on sin and behavior rather than faith and God’s redemption and empowerment. This only leads to us believing we cannot truly and practically life free, whole lives.
APPLICATION QUESTION(S):
What negative or self-deprecating thoughts or beliefs have you had about yourself or others?
ACTIVATION STEPS
From this study, prayerfully walk through the following steps:
STEP #1 – RETURN TO GOD’S TRUTH ABOUT IDENTITY (Genesis 1.27)
Your identity is not something you earn or achieve — it is given, fixed, and sustained by God alone. Early wounds or lies may distort your perception, but they cannot erase His design.
Ask the Holy Spirit: Whose attention would make me feel loved or valuable — and how does that reveal I’m looking for worth outside of You?
STEP #2 – EXPOSE THE FALSE MEASURES OF VALUE (Ephesians 2.8)
False perceptions (devalued or distorted) lead us to chase affirmation in unhealthy ways. If we believe our identity rests on achievement, performance, or behavior, we reject God’s grace (His help and empowerment) and miss His freedom.
Ask the Holy Spirit: What achievement would make me feel purposeful or successful — and how is that shaping my perception of who I am?
STEP #3 – LIVE FROM GOD’S DESIGN, NOT CIRCUMSTANCE (John 8.32)
Freedom and wholeness come as we daily align our hearts, minds, and bodies with God’s original design. His Spirit empowers us to live peacefully secure and free regardless of circumstance.
Ask the Holy Spirit: What circumstance would make me feel comfortable, safe, or secure — and how can I trust You to be my provider instead?
