So… Why Isn’t Everything Fixed Yet?

Imagine being diagnosed with a life-threatening tumor. The surgeon removes it, and you’re declared cancer-free. But even though the disease is gone, your body still needs time to heal. The battle is over, but the process isn’t finished.

That’s exactly where we stand in Jesus as believers. He has already fulfilled everything the Scriptures prophesied — sin is defeated, death has lost its sting, and we are fully redeemed. But we’re still in the “recovery” period, longing for the final restoration of all things.

Romans 8.16-25 reminds us that creation itself groans for the day when everything will be made right. We have been saved, but we still wait with eager hope for the full realization of our redemption. So how do we live in this tension?

Rest in What’s Already Done
Your sin is forgiven, your future is secure, and you belong to Christ. “For in hope we have been saved” (Romans 8.24). Live in the confidence that the hard part is over.

Endure the Waiting With Purpose
Healing takes time, and so does God’s full restoration of the world. “But if we hope for what we do not see, through perseverance we wait eagerly for it” (Romans 8.25). Keep trusting, even when things aren’t perfect yet.

Let the Spirit Strengthen You
In the waiting, we’re not alone. “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8.16). The Holy Spirit is our daily source of strength and assurance.

This week, ask yourself: Am I living as if the cure wasn’t enough? How can I lean into the Spirit’s strength while I wait for what’s to come?

The work is finished — but the best is still ahead!

God bless —
Nathan
